Интервю със Scott Wily (VITAL REMAINS)
Hi, Scott! It’s almost the end of the tour, how was it, did you like it?
Of course! I feel like this is one of the best death metal packages of all time, you know – Malevolent Creation, Vital Remains and Krisiun. Awesome.
They were some rumors about a new album but everything is quiet right now. Is there going to be one soon?
It’s been delayed because we have new band members now, new guitar player, new drummer…
Again?
Yes, again. And since the last time we’ve been here we’ve gone through three more drummers. So we do work about the new album but we have a brand new drummer and he has to learn the songs. And he’s from Mexico, another country, so it’s hard to work; we want to work together with him more. We plan to release the album the end of the summer, this year. It has been delayed long enough.
What is the situation with Glen Benton? Is he going to participate in the new album?
Glen… Well, he’s a very busy guy with Deicide. But Glen still comes back and plays songs with us; we sometimes do vocals on stage together. He is in and he is out. That’s the situation. Glen basically recorded Icons of Evil and Dechristianize with Vital Remains and does once in a while lives with us.
You usually play songs from your first four albums. Why is that?
We are actually planning on bringing back the older songs but not on this tour. We only have so much time to play songs at all. Vital Remains’ songs are long so we wanted to play the songs that we like, you know… When we come back on a headlining tour we are going to play more from the older albums along with the new one as well, the new songs. We try to mix it up with everything.
Why did you leave the corpsepaint you were using in the beginning?
That was long before I even joined the band. Vital Remains used to do corpsepaint… I don’t know, it was something in the beginning. We were thinking about bringing it back one day.
When?
Maybe something around Halloween time. Like a tour in corpsepaint.
You have changed a lot of musicians and labels throughout the years. Why is that? Does this make the music better or is it a drawback?
It’s hard to keep a band together. Every band goes through line-up changes and label changes. People change. It’s a matter of keeping it together for ourselves. We got to find new people. The line-up we have right now – I hope it stays together because I don’t want the new album to be delayed any longer.
What is your favorite concert or tour in your career?
We just did a festival in Mexico with Megadeth, Fear Factory, Destruction, Dark Funeral, Kataklysm and a lot of band. There were a lot of people – 20 000 people or something like that. All those people – just amazing.
You played with a lot of death metal bands. Which is your favorite to play with?
Of course – Vital Remains, it’s my life, it’s what I do. I also have another band of my own, named Zircon – black/death metal. But yeah, Vital Remains is number one for me.
What are your expectations about the show today?
My expectations are high. I want to see the fans really having a good time, I want to see people stage diving, crowd surfing, moshing, you know – it wouldn’t be a death metal show without that.
Thank you so much for your time. Would you say something for the fans?
Stay forever true and forever black.
