Interview with ALEISTER „KING SATAN“ – (KING SATAN, SATURNIAN MIST)

kingsatanSatania: Hello ALEISTER! I am glad that we are able to talk again, even more, I am that you are coming to Bulgaria once more.

KING SATAN: – Hi Milena! Always a pleasure!

S.: The fans of the occult black metal already saw you with Saturnian Mist. King Satan is another project, with another idea behind it and a different style. Tell us more about its creation.

K.S.: – KING SATAN was founded in 2015 by me as a result of series off-hours experimentations at the BLACKVOX STUDIO (that I run, among the other shady businesses haha) where I just wanted to record and produce totally something else than what I had done with SATURNIAN MIST last 10 years. I had plenty of unreleased, unarranged and not finalized compositions in my pocket that I had done over the years that never fit SATURNIAN MIST’s world in my head, so granted own studio that was built back in 2014 I just experimented and searched proper way to express what I wanted to say and, well, express. The result is what you can hear in ”We Are King Satan And We Fuck The World” demo EP and the first singles! The amalgam of sinister electro-industrial together with rocking black metal / death metal violence! I think? I just discarded all limits at the studio of what genre boundaries should mean and just did whatever my intuition dictated me. I don’t even want to think of genres when I compose King Satan. I have a feeling and/or message that I want to deliver and everything else builds around that! Pure creation means fucking the rules.

Also, I didn’t do the demo alone and the first steps completely alone, I asked JOHN OSCAR DEE a.k.a. FRA. PTAHAZ from SATURNIAN MIST to play some instruments to demo ’cos he’s lunatic and wanted him to be part of KING SATAN. He still shows up rehearsals and our gigs, so I think he wanted to stay and that’s cool. After the singles there were a demand for us playing live and we of course embraced it, and it meant that I had to find more musicians for live purposes at first, but they all were suitable enough to play in becoming debut album too! After few tryouts I found this B.B. KILL guy to guitars, cos ’he plays that guitar like some animal instead of some shoe gazer jazz ukkeli which suited me very well. And then I hired KATE BOSS to dance and play synths since we are semi-danceable music according to our listeners, and to be perfectly honest, only because she was so hot, hahaha (Yea I know I’m asshole, but don’t tell her!). When she started actually playing those synths I was astonished not only that she actually could play so fucking well, but that she had such deep a artistic expression in her too as she ended up even composing to the album! So, I guess I was lucky and got more than I bargained for. All in all, kind of hazy start and it all happened quite fast because of the first singles and that they were received surprisingly well among the listeners, at least when you take in consider that had no expectations (and still don’t haha) or any plan when I started doing this.

S.: Why King Satan?

K.S.: – Because I am KING SATAN

S.: Your spiritual quests in the black metal project are clear to the fans. But what motivated you to create an insdustrial band?

K.S.: – I don’t know for sure. Songs, riffs, melodies, rhythms, lyrics just keeps coming to me and I go berserk and completely crazy if I don’t channel them out from my head. I just wanted to extend the means to express myself with KING SATAN, covering all the aspects that I could not do with SATURNIAN MIST alone or elsewhere whatsoever. Why I ended up to electro-industrial, is probably just because I’m avid fan of so many aggrotech and EBM artists like HOCICO, SUICIDE COMMANDO, COMBICHRIST etc… and for industrial bands like SKINNY PUPPY really pushes my buttons. And THE PRODIGY! When speaking of KING SATAN’s non-metal influences, I should never forget to mention that. Listened THE PRODIGY ever since I was a kid, so I think the influences from there drove me to search out the expression form for KING SATAN from these areas that I always wanted to explore but hadn’t any channel for it before. Though, still don’t hold your breathe of defining our genre, as I still plan to continue with this policy that there should not be any limits when it comes to the creation and fuck the genre boundaries and (sub-)cultural norms. The first songs and the becoming debut album just ended up being electro-industrial oriented, there is no saying what will follow after that in future hehe. (It could though!).

S.: “WE ARE KING SATAN AND WE FUCK THE WORLD” – is this King Satan’s message to the world?

K.S.: – No! That was just introducing us to the world! Entrance message if you will! (Do I use enough exclamation marks??!!!) You can get a picture of our message by reading the lyrics of the songs already published and rest by witnessing us live and when the debut album comes out! S.: Two appearances until now – SAARIHELVETTI FESTIVALS, Tampere, with Turmion, Kätilöt and Shining, and the GOTHIC FEST SOFIA (which makes us feel special). What can we expect from the show, because I know that all your stage performances are different?

K.S.: – Actually, we played one more concert at Tampere, FINLAND with Fear Of Domination and Satanibatorright after SAARIHELVETTI, but nevertheless you will be KING SATAN’s FIRST concert outside of FINLAND and WE CANNOT WAIT! Looking forward so much this. I don’t like to tell or explain too much in detail what to expect, since experience should speak itself, but you can expect SEX MAGICK AND ROCK’N’ROLL in the form of our electro-industrial metal noise!

S.: Black, industrial, gothic. Do you think that they have any connection between them and if yes, what is it?

K.S.: – I don’t know, I’m not very good with genres so I quote C.G. Jung to here to fake me to sound smart: ”One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” I think it explains kind of a link between every art form that strives to find beauty and truth among the such themes as death and darkness more eloquently than I could. (C.G. Jung is the man!)

S.: Until now you have one EP. What about your album? Can you tell us if you have a release date?

K.S.: – It’s in the making since the spring. It’s already practically recorded, just some guest appearances must be recorded and to fix some small details before it goes to mixing and mastering. Mixings have already started though in parallel, so you (and we!) don’t have to wait for so long anymore. However, I don’t think it will be released in 2016 as earlier predicted, but very early of 2017! For sure we are making at least one more music video single before the album release, I can guarantee that!

S.: Considering the fact that the EP has only three songs, I guess that we will hear quite a lot of new stuff in your setlist?

K.S.: – YES! You will hear lots of new material all from the becoming debut album!

S.: You know that I like to discuss such subjects with you. And as our gothic party is somehow connected to Halloween. Do you support or not Halloween? And Halloween or Samhain, which is more acceptable according to you?

K.S.: – Almost all pagan festivals and holidays are based on much more deeper knowledge about ourselves, nature and universe around us than any of the major religion ones, so HELL YEAH. It’s very good synchronization for us to play our first concert outside of Finland in festival of the DEAD! ”Dance my puppets, dance ’till you DIE!”.

S.: SEX MAGICK AND ROCK’N’ROLL…what helps more to reach the nature of Chaos, SATURNIAN MIST or KING SATAN,? Which of those is more “sex and magick” and which is more “rock’n’roll”?

K.S.: – Well these both are more KING SATAN which is why it is used in the context of KING SATAN but as a practicing chaos magician, I am of course bound to repeat same kind of underlying tones with KING SATAN that I am doing with SATURNIAN MIST as I write the lyrics of the both bands, heh (You of course referred there with Chaos to the motto of SATURNIAN MIST – Chaos is the law!). For SATURNIAN MIST, CHAOS IS THE LAW and KING SATAN means SEX MAGICK AND ROCK’N’ROLL. Granted, occultism plays pivotal role in both.
