Scythia is an epic/progressive folk metal band from Canada, but as always, I don’t like going into strictly defined style frames. In their music are felt some of the characteristic elements of Dream Theater, Ayreon, Alestorm, Rhapsody, Turisas, Stormwarrior, even in one place the keyboards remind me a little bit of Deep Purple. In addition to the many influences we can’t miss the originality in their music too.

„ …Of Conquest „ contains 12 songs in epic progressive metal with folk moments and some melodic death metal elements. The synthesis shows an energetic album without any risk of repetition and duplication of ideas and melodies or homogeneity. According to the band’s name (the ancient land of Scythia stretches into Central Asia and Eastern Europe), we might have more in common with the group than we assume. Their songs about wanderings, martial feats and storms could safely be interpreted for possible sea adventures in the Black Sea, which divides us with this land. Beyond it, with songs such as „Merchant of sin“, „Bear Claw Tavern“, „Land of Scythia“ and Army Of The Bear“, we pass through lulls and storms, expressed in faster and slower songs with power and rough vocals. Not cheating on the band’s style, the album again gives me the opportunity to slip into my favorite pastime to see a work as a natural phenomenon, culminating at some moments in the guitar-drum elemental vehement storm.

P.SScythia have a very hot gal on drums- Celine Derval. I needed to note this fact, such things as female drummers are rare these days.

„ …Of Conquest“  is officialt out on 25th February 2014.
