Интервю с Cody и Nick от HATRIOT

Some time ago we took an exclusive interview with Steve „Zetro“ Souza where we were talking about his new band Hatriot. Now we are pleased to present you our new meeting with part of the band – his sons Cody and Nicholas Souza.
The reason is the release of new Hatriot album – „Heroes Of Origin“ (25.01.2013)

MH18: You’re now done with the album and, in addition, there’s a long ago shot video to Bloodstained Wings. Is the rest of the album as harsh as this song and do you feel proud of the final results?

Cody: Yes, every song in the album is at least as heavy, if not more aggressive.

Nick: We re-recorded Bloodstained Wings for the album and it is indeed more harsh due the better quality of recording.

MH18: The album will be out soon – between which two CDs in your collection will you put it?

Cody: I’d have to put it between my favorite two albums – “Ritual” by The Black Dahlia Murder & “The Blackening” by Machine Head.

Nick: For me I would put “Heroes of Origin” between “Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Versus)” by Slipknot & “Hordes of Chaos” by Kreator  for sure.

MH18: Did everyone take part in the composing process?

Cody & Nick: Kosta V writes the music and Papa Zet writes the lyrics. We add some flames to the rhythm section for sure though.

MH18: A few months ago, by the time of the interview we made with Steve, the drummer slot was still unoccupied. Was Nick the logical choice?

Cody: We had tried out a few drummers, and honestly I wanted him to have the spot.  The last time we had jammed, which was some time before his try-out, I felt he wasn’t ready, but his try out was stunning.  He definitely earned himself to be the guy for the position.

Nick: They didn’t tell me I got the gig until about two weeks later.  I was so nervous everyday knowing they were  still trying out drummers, but in the end they congratulated me on a job well done. Within 24 Hours there was a post via Blabbermouth.net about it.

MH18: How do you feel about the fact that the media interest is concentrated mainly on your father?

Cody: They’re interested now because he’s re-entering the same scene he left, in which he was arguably the voice of Bay Area Thrash.

Nick: I think they’re interested now because he has been kind of quiet since he left Exodus in 2004, but in the future I’m sure the media will be wondering more about Kosta, Miguel, Cody and I.

MH18: You’ve been literally raised with thrash metal.  Which bands did you admire the most, in addition to Exodus, of course?

Cody: My top favorites in thrash would have to be Slayer, Testament, and Pantera.

Nick: Mine would have to be Testament, Anthrax, Slayer, Forbidden and Suicidal Tendencies .

MH18: One day, when you have your own kids, which would be the first metal record you would play to them?

Cody: I would say “Fabulous Disaster” by Exodus.  It  sounds odd saying it, but they have to learn grandpa’s music before mine.

Nick: I would pick “Tempo of the Damned” by Exodus.   Not only is it Exodus’ best album, I lived the whole thing, so I would play my children the album and tell them my experiences that went along with it… such as watching “War is My Shepherd” being filmed.

MH18: If your father was a country performer, would you still be listening to thrash or you would have founded a country band?

Cody: I’m into music theory, so I really enjoyed the technically in metal.  I would still be listening to metal definitely.

Nick: Honestly, probably both!  LOL

MH18: Is Hatriot your first serious stage experience?

Cody & Nick: No, we both played in a death metal band Called Oskorei.  That band opened up for various acts such as All Shall Perish, Imagika, Deicide, Vital Remains, Laaz Rockit, Testament and Warbringer.  We played a big part in the Bay Area death metal scene for whatever it’s worth.

MH18: Except music, what else are you interested in?

Cody: I love Oakland Sports, and I’m a nerd so video games, Star Wars, zombies, and fancy beers !

Nick: I’m into sports.  In football I follow the Oakland Raiders, and in baseball it’s the Oakland Athletics.  I also go to shows and like partying.

MH18: Most of the thrashers have a strong social and political position about what’s happening in the world. Are you interested in such things and do you have your own point of view?

Cody & Nick: DEMOCRATIC.

MH18: Thank you for your time and this interview!

Chuck
