VAN CANTO – Dawn Of The Brave (2014)
Rakka-takka, dubba-dum, bada-boom, tara-dam, takka-tak, para-pa-para-pa. No, these are not the lyrics of the latest dubstep or Bulgarian pop-folk hit, but the predominant part of the music of Van Canto. This band suddenly whipped me up ever since their cover of „Battery“ came out. The main idea of the band with all this a cappella singing is so cool and attractive, that there’s no way not to cause interest. So perhaps that’s why „Dawn Of The Brave“ is a very anticipated album, people are curious to see where the imagination of the Germans will take us this time.
Very strong album, I’d say. Unhackneyed and refreshing, with a lots of rhythm and melody. After listening to the thirteen songs for the first time, I smiled and felt just like after reading a good book, which has dizzied you. Closing the last page, you think: „Awesome!..But that’s all? „. „Dawn Of The Brave“ has an epic start, which flows in a series of powerful songs such as „Fight for your life „,“ Badaboom“, the little bit more of rock ‘n’ roll one „Steelbreaker“ , the mystical „The other ones“ and the different „Unholy“. Among them also are inserted several interesting and predictably good covers of „The final countdown“ (Europe), „Holding out for a hero“ (Bonnie Tyler), the beautiful „Into the west“ („the Lord Of The Rings“ soundtrack), as well as the legendary „Paranoid“ (Black Sabbath), with which the album properly ends.
Beautiful, emotional, rhythmic, colourful and interesting fusion of low and high male and female vocals, a palette of sounds and drums. I bet these guys are never bored and the process of writing songs is as interesting as entertaining. Sometimes I feel like one of them-but just humming songs whose lyrics I don’t know and instead of words, I sing along different syllables, or I literarize the guitar parts.
Being different is modern, challenging, too. But to be good and original as Van Canto, however, is not so easy. The superpower of Van Canto is to bravely create unique in its own way groundbreaking music.
„Dawn Of The Brave“ is officially out on 07th February 2014 via Napalm Records.
