Интервю с Filip от Negative CORE Project

On 11th june there was a promo-concert for the new album of Eufobia – Cup Of Mud. One of the bands who supported this show was Negative CORE Project from Romania. Because of the warm welcome from the crowd in club “The Box”, we decided to take a short interview with their vocalis Filip.

First of all, tell us more about Negative CORE Project.

We’re a bunch of crazy Romanians, from Bucharest, that’s like shaking walls and irritating the central nervous system of the listeners  🙂

We changed a lot over the past 3 years from members to style and we’re recording our first album.

The current formula is Gabriel “Gabi” DIMA – drums, Tudor SCANTEIE – guitar, Alex NICHIFOROF – bass guitar , Mihai DINCA – guitar, Victor BADILA (ex guitar player) – synth and Filip “Flip” BRUNET – vocals.

You play thrash/death metal. Don’t you think in the past years this genre became very popular? And how did you decide to play that kind of music?

Well, I guess it became more and more powerful because of a need to evolve and I think it was just a question of time before someone would have done it. I am truly thankful to a lot of bands that played their role in mixing things up and experimenting stuff.

As for us, playing music this way came out naturally, no one tried something that should sound in a predefined way but the music that we listen/listened to has a lot to do with the result. I can’t even say that we play death/thrash anymore, ‘cause our music has elements from other genres and subgenres.

You put some hardcore elements in your music. Whose idea was to mix that?

As I said before, it came naturally…we use stuff that we like and we are lucky that all of us, in the band, understand each other when it comes to making songs. What we do is develop an idea that usually Tudor or Mihai (or Victor our ex guitar player) bring up and from there each one gives an opinion and we start building the song; this way each member participates and we end up with stuff that we all like.

Hardcore and other subgenres in our music are just reflecting the fact that we play what we like and we enjoy it! As it turns out it seems that we begin to be more and more brutal and that people appreciate that.

What are your inspirations for creating music and lyrics?

Alex: good bands, visionary musicians, coffee…

Mihai: chaos, debauchery, psychedelic states of being, Cthullu, Satan 🙂

Gabi: states of being, happenings, events, stuff…

Filip: Lullabies and butterflies 🙂 (I always wanted to say that) !!

The lyrics that I write are usually meant to point things out. The general message would be:  wake the f**k up and take a look around!

Though most of the songs on “Spread the disease” are written in my early days in the band (goes back to late 2008 when we went under the name of “Tarantula”).

I remain at pointing the finger to human regression, fear, hate, self-destruction, obsessions, anxiety, war, faith, religion…basically, a mixture of things that make me sick, things that I feel and/or live on a daily basis, stuff I see around me. So yeah, we don’t have any love songs yet, but you never know! I have some ideas 🙂

Do you have any favorite bands you try to look (sound) like, and give you an inspiration?

Favorite bands yes, bands that we try to look like, I would say no, bands that we try to sound like… that’s too difficult to answer.

As for inspirations, due to the fact that we listen to a lot of music, it’s possible to have riffs and stuff that may sound familiar to bands we like.

We saw you on 11th June in Sofia, playing with our friends Eufobia. How did you get on this concert?

Our drummer, Gabi, knows the Eufobians (Niki especially) for some time and they kept a good relationship. I am happy to have met them and we look forward for future gigs with them; we really had a good time and I think that was the beginning of a long friendship.

You were welcomed very very good here. Did you enjoy the show and will you come back someday?

It was totally unexpected !! In fact, we didn’t know what to expect 🙂 I was so surprised that when it came to thank the crowd, words wouldn’t come out of my mouth 🙂 I was like : “ the crowd…the crowd, man…the crowd…”

The show was great, the bands playing that night were great; people seemed really pleased so I’d say we all did a good job; we left Sofia keeping in mind nice memories and yes, we’re planning on coming back one day.

You are now recording an album, your first one, named “Spread The Disease”. Tell us more about it!

I waited for this album for a long time but I’m glad that now it will come out at its full potential. Although it’s self-produced (our guitar player, Tudor is in charge of all the process of recording and producing) it will at least have a decent sound. We’re planning to release only “old” songs like Blood God, Motherfucker, Rotten, Defector…and we’re thinking of making an EP with some of the new songs like unHoly, Pride and Together as one, to point out the evolution and the new direction of the band. It’s still in the thinking process so there’s nothing official yet.

The album does not follow any concept, the songs have different themes, ideas and messages but I’ll say more after the release, if I have the chance.

When it is supposed to be ready? Do you plan to make a promotion of it around other countries? Bulgaria maybe?

We hope that by the end of this autumn we’ll have it ready. We plan to promote it in as many countries as possible and Bulgaria is also one of them.

One common question we ask all the bands around the Balkans: Is it hard to play metal in Romania? Do you have to make any sacrifices?

Filip: 🙂 It’s as hard as anywhere else in the world: there is nothing for free out there and you have to make your way to the top. Sacrifice is something hardly avoidable if you don’t have the finances to overstep it. It’s not something very pleasant but the fact that we like so much what we do brings the whole “sacrifice” thing to something of small importance. Yeah, sometimes it’s hard having to pay stuff out of your pocket, giving time away from friends and/or family to rehears, doing gigs for free just for people to see you…but the feeling of being on stage and having a good gig with a crowd that enjoys what it hears/sees… the most important thing ! 😀

Alex: It depends on the desired quality of your music…some people compensate it with drug abuse.

Thanks for the short interview! We will be back after you release the album “Spread The Disease”. Best wishes from Sofia !

The pleasure was all ours! Thanks for the interview and the warm welcome and we promise to be back to spread some more Negative CORE Disease 🙂 Horns up and keep it brutal !!
