Интервю с FELLA от DREAMSHADE
2013 is here and so do many concerts and albums. It was pleasure chatting with Fernando „Fella“ Di Cicco, one of the guitarists of the Swiss new wave of melodic death metal band Dreamshade about their second full-lenght album called „The Gift Of Life“ with release date 25 January 2013. The project can boast with it’s new vocal (Kevin) , who is a perfect match to them.
Congratulations on the new album! We’ve been waiting for it for 2 years and I cant wait anymore, haha. What do you think about the album, what do you want to say with your music and what do you find behind it’s spirit?
First of all thank you for this interview and happy new year everyone! The album is a fresh new chapter of our career and we are very satisfied of the work we’ve done. „The Gift Of Life“ is the result of all we’ve been through during the last two years and we managed to tell our personal experiences through every song.
What are your expectations for fans’ reactions? I bet we will we all love it, the singles sound just perfect!
In my opinion we improved a lot with the songwriting and inserted many new influences that make our sound very unique. It all sounds a bit more modern and complete than our previous work „What Silence Hides“. Songs differ a lot from each other and I’m sure pretty much anyone can find himself in one of them.
So..it’s called“The gift of life“. What do you think, which is the gift of life?
The only true gift is Life actually! It is the most important and beautiful thing we’ve got and we got it for free! The Album-Title is something about loving life even when it’s damn hard!
Talking about your album names.. I am curious, what does silence hide?
Haha! Behind „What Silence Hides“ it stands a different kind of concept. Everyone can interpret the title as they want. What we had in mind was this: Sometimes silence means more than a thousand words, we just have to understand what’s behind it.
Who wrote the lyrics and the music in your new project?
Me and Rocco usually write all the music. I also wrote one half of the album lyrics and Kevin wrote the other half.
What are your biggest inspirations and how do you relax in your free time?
Our biggest inspiration in general is Life. I also think a lot when I’m alone and many unanswered questions pop up in my mind, that’s why some of the lyrics are filled with questions. (Haha!)
Everyone of us relax in different ways. Relax? The band is not only a job for us. Some of us live together, we usually spend much time together, we love to eat, to drink and to hang out with friends.
How long have you been playing the guitar and how did you decide to? Why not drums or bass for example?
I’ve been playing the guitar for 10 years now. I was 12 when me and Rocco (Dreamshade’s blond guitarist) were at school together. One day he asked to our class who wanted to start taking guitar lessons with him, I raised my hand and said „Let’s do this!“, so we began taking guitar lessons together 🙂
Which is your favourite guitarist? You know, the one who makes you proud with what you do and gives you the courage to be like him.
My personal favourite guitar player is Tony MacAlpine. I love the way he’s not only a guitar shredder, he’s also very melodic and he also plays piano in his songs!
It’s a kind of rare situation for 2 guitarists in one band. How do you find it- is it easier for you, do you and Rocco pull together?
Me and Rocco get along very well, we live together and we always write Dreamshade music together. It is very useful, beacause we write very different kind of riffs and atmospheres and then we mix them together. That’s why our songs sound unique in my opinion!
As an owl lover I can’t help but ask you about the owl tattoo on your arm. What is its meaning? It’s awesome! ^^
Hahaha! Ok, well I don’t usually explain the meanings of my tatts, I’m sorry! Glad you love it anyway . 🙂
You have already visited Bulgaria..What do you remember from your stay at Kavarna Rock Fest 2011 and what are your impressions? We can’t wait to see you here again and then we may drink beer and party together.. Maybe some day..
Oh, our visit to Bulgaria has a special place in our hearts! We had such a great time there, met so many fantastic people and partied with them. We will never forget that summer and WANT to come back as soon as possible with our new album! Kavarna Rock Fest is an awesome festival and I suggest it to everyone who lives in the nearby 😉
And finally..what will you say to the readers at Metal Hangar 18 and Bulgarian Dreamshade fans?
Readers of Metal Hangar 18 and Bulgarian Fans, we really can’t wait to come back to Bulgaria and we’ll be doing anything possible to make it happen. I still get messages everyday from many Bulgarian fans even two years after our last visit to BG. Thank you for being all so friendly and awesome. We love you all!
