FLAMETAL – Flametal (2014)

There is no way to pass by a brand new album – this time that would be the spatial instrumental flamenco metal stroll organized by Ben Woods and his project Flametal. The self-named effort is completely different from the latest cover album from 2010, in which the band recreated songs of some of the best known metal artists.
The innovative combination between those two at first glance inconsistent genres gathers its fans for the fourth time. Curious are the participants in the production. Ben has invited a constellation of guest musicians. Sean Reinert (Cynic, Death) and Mike Bennet (Defiance, Ritchie Kotzen) hide themselves behind the drums, while Glen Drover (Megadeth, King Diamond and Queensryche) plays the guitars alongside Marc Rizzo (Il Nino, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy).
The unbelievable interlacement of classic flamenco guitar with the heavy riffs and solos, padded with fast drumming and multifarious motives has reached its top. The blood boiling spanish rythm enriches the wall of musical details that expects every fan who is willing to drown into the atmosphere. In every single song each one of the musicians has left his own special mark. In Tribal Sahidi Omar Lopez proves his violin competence. The main stress is placed, however, upon Woods, who, on the one hand, demonstrates his faculties à la Paco de Lucia, but on the other doesn’t forget to show how he can play the electric guitars, the peruvian cajon and the turkish twelve-stringed cümbüş. The eleven compositions do not need dissection – this is definately Ben’s best acheivement. We expect to see him and his skills at the Master Guitar Tour at the 15. of May.
