VORGRUM – Last Domain (2015)
If we were not already aware of the fact that Vorgrum are from Buenos Aires, we would totally think of them as a band from the European North. And probably we will never know if South America is truly the „last domain“ of Scandinavian pagan/viking/black/folk (it’s your choice) or these four Argentinians have found a portal to Niflheim but the fact is that all twelve tracks, put together, create a combination as good as each of the popular names in the subgenres, listed above, so the exotic location is not the only advantage of this band. We see Last Domain as a product of a well-known and tested formula – typical black metal dominated tirades, battle hymns, fairy tales of mythical creatures (mostly trolls) and, of course, a „drunkard anthem“… I guess you already know what to expect – forests, fields, alcohol, ancient stories of even more ancient times, alcohol, raging horses and swinging swords, alcohol… Vorgrum seem to be at least as interesting as any other similar band, so it’s up to you to give them a chance instead of returning to the ones you’ve already heard before. I assure you, there’s no wrong choice in this case.
