Pain Of Soul – THE COLD LAMENT
It’s a fact that I am sceptical about bands with female singer. I can’t “swallow” the tender female voice above heavy music. But I was very impressed from Pain Of Soul and THE COLD LAMENT. It’s hard to classify the band’s style but if I had to choose, it would be dark metal. There are a lot of other style lines in this album. Dani’s female parts and Joel’s hard vocal are complement one another. This dark and heavy atmosphere is based on doom, death and gothic metal.

7. Dark Lord
(48 min all – perfect for me!)
First song, of the same name, starts slowly with guitars and gradually become a kind of dark and heavy reefs – background for the “game” between female opera vocals and Joel’s grunting parts. It’s a very remarkable song – that’s why it’s the first on the album.
The thing that springs up here are the drums. Some people may not like the hard drum sounding but they remind me of Candlemass’ first album – fathers of the doom. Exactly that made me a fan of this style of music. Fast drums with slowly depressing melody…For those of you who can’t understand me – listen to Demons Gate or Black Stone Wielder. Pain of Soul improve this Candlemass way of playing. In some parts we can hear only the drums and the bass (Damn Kingdom) and this make us realize how important are they to a band.
At the end – different, interesting, complete album. For real fans of that style. (7,5/10)
