Satania: Hi, guys! For first what are your impressions from Bulgaria, from Sofia, from your concert here?

Voltumna: The country and the city are beautiful, really! And what can we say about the concert ?? Simply amazing, great crowd that knew our songs, a great emotion for us. We will come back soon.

S.: What does VOLTUMNA mean and why did you choose this name? (I know that this is Etruscian god, but I want you to tell me more about it)

V.: All the former members of the band are born in the lands where centuries ago the Etruscans lived, before the blasphemy of the Roman Empire and Catholic Church.
We try to revive the beauty of this mysterious “civilization” talking in our lyrics of their rituals, esoterism, mythology and history, inspired by what they have left us Here.
Voltuman is the great goddess of the Etruscan and she was worshipped in the centre of the world for the Etruscan, called „Fanum Voltumnae“ the holy forest.

S.: Etruscan black metal? Tell me more about who were the ethruscians. Something interesting from them believes. As I read they have even made human sacrifices. How militant and sanguinary they have been?

V.: We are all focused to learn about this ancinet and mistheric civilization, reading academic and no-academic works of different author and seeing the archeological sites;
furthermore our guitarist (Haruspex) is studying Italic Archeology in Rome. We know about the ritual of Aruspicina and animals sacrifices but about human probably they didn’t make it.
They were militant just enough to defend them from the others, war is not the centre of life in the history. Magic, Science, Nature, Ritual, Sex their main properties.

S.: Represent the band for the bulgarian fans who didn’t see you and still don’t know nothing about you. And tell me since when anyone of you make music?

V.: Voltumna is the Etruscan horde from centre Italy, is style is focused on a Blackened Death Metal with some influences from other genre/subgenre.
The band is composed by 4 members: Zilath Meklhum voice; Haruspex guitar and backing vocals; Fulgurator bass; Augur drums. Anyone of us have started playing his instruments between 2008/2009 some months before the band starts his journey.

S.: How did you found the band and create the conception?

V.: From an idea of the guitarist Haruspex approved by the other members. We are born in the ancient and suggestive Etruscan lands so for us it’s a proud to talk about this mysteric and lost civilization.

S. Do you think that new Italian black metal bands (I mean after the 2000) give the new vision and conceptions of that style? In what way?

V.: In Italy we have a lot of good bands from all the subgenres of metal and also for Black Metal, exactly we have no a unique way every band do what they feel, we think, but we need more support by the Italian fans.

S.: Historically you don’t have insurmountable conflict with religion (as Scandinavia for example), which suggests a different message and direction of the music. What does VOLTUMNA sing about?

V.: The conflict is between the ancient glory and the modern decay, and probably modern religions are one of the great perpetrators of this decay.
For what Voltumna sings about we have talked in the answers before.

S. What are the differences between Italian black metal stage and Scandinavian or that in Eastern Europe?

V.: Probablu only that in Scandivania or Eastern Europe you can have more possibilities to express yourself as you wish. More venues and more people.

S.: I will ask you something that I’ve never asked a black metal band before, but because you behave exactly on your Etruscan roots (not the Roman ones). I remember how in the largo in Sofia you told that in explanatory signs have mistakes and some words are not Roman but Etruscian. So, what do you think about NSBM?

V.: We doesn’t support any political point of view. Our behaviour was only to correct your mistake of confusion between Romans and Etruscans eheheheh.

S.: Would you define your band as NSBM (in your last album you have a song ROMA DELENDA EST, probably a paraphrase of historical Carthago delenda est)… What is your opinion about black metal bands who define themselves as NSBM?

V.: Absolutely not. Voltuman doesn’t support any polotical point of view. We are free minders.

S.: In your opinion, should black metal be politicaly and ethnically pointed? Because we know this is not an usual topic of black metal bands.

V.: As said before: Absolutely not. We feel the modern civilization like the Roman Empire for our mind and soul, so something that must be destroyed.

S. Let’s turn on your art again. A year ago you released your second album. What does Disciplina Etrusca mean and what story or stories it tells? There is a song about some very interesting ancient ritual „Teofagia“? Did it existed in Etruscian rituals?

V.: Disciplina Etrusca (Etruscan Discipline) was the union of all the arts, rituals and doctrines that sanctified the Etruscan religion and knowledge. It has been collected in three books:
the Tagetici for the art of the ‘haruspicy; the Vegonici for studying lightning and the Libri Rituales .
This latest creation of Voltumna delves into one of the cornerstones of the most mysterious and ancient Italic esoterism to try to revive a lost knowledge.
For „Teofagia“, yes of course it existed.

S.: You will play on a few European festivals. Which ones and where? There is possibility some of our readers to see you somewhere.

V.: We have for this summer a 3 big European Festivals: MetalGate Czech Death fest the 17th of June, Italia Pagan Fest in Pavia (It) the 25th of June and
Carpathian Alliance Fest in Kyev (Ukraine) the 29th of July. And also we can announce our CHINA Tour during this August as Headliner.
Next year you will see Voltumna in much more big festival, stay tuned.

S.: What are you planning in the future? Probably not a new album, but where is your focus?

V.: You are wrong, we are already working on some new stuff that could see the light next year. Tours and festival WORLDWIDE are our first points for the end of the year and 2017.

S.: The plase for your message, self-promotion, thankfulness… Thanks for that interview!

V.: Thanks to you for this opportunity to let our Bulgarian and worldwide fans to know a little more about us.
The Etruscans will conquer your soul soon…
