DISTRESS OF RUIN – Predators Among Us (2013)

Everybody knows, that in my opinion melodic death metal always has been nothing more than a few popular bands (most of them from Sweden) and I have to say that today at least the half of them have nothing common with the death metal genre. Of course, I like to keep my eyes open and it’s pretty awesome, that something located east of the Gulf Of Bothnia is still attractive to me. Please, just don’t make me pronounce the Distress Of Ruin members’ names or their hometown’s name – you have probably heard about Joennsu before because this was the birth place of another popular finnish band, Insomnium. Well, they seem to be one of DOR’s inspirations and if we are supposed to search for other similar bands, we’ll definitely add Amorphis or even Before The Dawn to the list. It won’t be a lie, if I say that sometimes the six songs in Predators Among Us seem just a bit monotone, but balance is the band’s strongest weapon for sure. Without being too fastidious, Distress Of Ruin cover the melodeath standarts and still they are skilled enough, and their music is so catchy and nice, without being naive, that I somehow prefer to leave each weakness behind. In addition, I have to say that without the pure death metal in Bystander Effect I would never have been this satisfied. Ok, enough talking… Replay?
