LET THEM FALL: „Искаме да споделим промяната с феновете си!“
Almost one year have passed, since LET THEM FALL visited Bulgaria for the first time. Unfortunately, only a few people attended their concert in club „Tri Ushi“. And that’s too bad, because, if we can tell by their new single „Wintersun“, these Italians are completely aware of the modern metal trends and grow within seconds. Here’s what we spoke about not so long ago with the vocalist Rita D’Aniello:
Hi, Rita! I know you had a concert in Sofia last year, but, first of all, I’d like to ask you to introduce the band to the Bulgarian fans, which didn’t make it to see you live. Who are you, people, behind the name LET THEM FALL, how did you find each other?
LET THEM FALL is a metalcore project based in Grosseto (Italy) and formed by Rita D’Aniello, Gabriele Catoni, Marco Manus, Mario Spatuzzi and Mattia Detti. Everything started in 2013 from the ashes of an old band and since the beginning we’ve always been active and never stopped creating music, besides various line up’s changes.
The official occasion for this interview is the release of your new single „Wintersun“ and the official video for it. Tell us all we need to know about it?
„Wintersun“ is our 2nd single since the release of „Of Kings & Heroes“ (2015). In this song we mantained the same style of the previous release „Fenrir“ but we chose to express ourselves from another point of view. The result is a more reflective song and a darker atmosphere. The video was shot in Talamone, a place near our hometown, and the videomaker we worked with is our trustworthy friend Matteo Ermeti. We collaborated with him for the first time in 2015 with the „Shape Of Glory“‘s videoclip and since that time he never disappointed our expectations.
Does this new single mean we are expecting a bigger release soon enough? Why not an LP? Or will you stick to the shorter formats, such as EPs and singles?
The reason why we’re making these singles is because we’re experiencing a constant evolution in our project and we want to share this change with our fans. We obviously thought about releasing a full-length but for the time being we can’t say when we’ll feel ready to make this important step.
In my opinion, shortly, in „No More Silence“ you sound more of a hardcore, and then, with „Of Kings & Heroes“, it gets more metal. Whatever your next release is, what would be its musical direction?
Regarding our sound, we definitely abandoned that hardcore punk vibe that characterized „No More Silence“ and embraced influences from several metal genres. What we’re searching for at the moment is an improvement of what we’ve created from „Of Kings & Heroes“ on.
I’m pretty sure I hear a lot of WHILE SHE SLEEPS in your music. What other bands you get inspiration from and fans of which bands must consider paying attention to you as well ?
Well, we love WHILE SHE SLEEPS and obviously you can find some influences from them in our songs. Maybe other bands that give us inspiration could be THE GHOST INSIDE and ARCHITECTS. In general we feel like everyone who likes metalcore with tons of melodic stuff could enjoy what we do.
What is your opinion of bands such as BRING ME THE HORIZON, which, in time, left the harshness behind and started creating, basically, pop songs? Is this the natural way for the heavy music?
We respect BRING ME THE HORIZON for being always a surprise and for having experimented music with total freedom during the years. We think that a band is not supposed to sound heavy for its entire career; Every artist has the right and the duty to take the direction that most fits him.
Let’s talk about your last-year concert in Sofia. What do you remember from it? I’ve heard it wasn’t such a success, which is quite surprising, having in mind that there’s a stable metalcore scene in Bulgaria…
Our Balkan tour has been one of the most exciting and unforgettable experiences for us as a band. Actually the gig in Sofia hasn’t been so great but everyone in the venue made everything possible to let us feel comfortable and we appreciated it a lot. The fact is, for an underground band is not so easy to make every show work perfectly regarding the people who show up, expecially if it’s a Monday night.
Speaking of which, what about the hardcore/metalcore scene in Italy?
Here in Italy we got plenty of talented bands and artists. Unfortunately and in particular in Tuscany there aren’t many clubs that allow us to play our kind of music. Despite this we are extremely proud of what the italian scene has demonstrated across the years.
There’s a lot of women in metal, but it seems like it’s still considered mostly as men’s world. Do you find it hard being a woman in it? Which is the female metal/hardcore musician you personally admire?
Unfortunately when you get into the web you have to face this kind of thinking, the not very open minded one. But, you know, that’s not the kind of problem that beats me down. I know myself and I like myself on what I like to do and this is the most important thing. There are many frontwoman that I admire. Candace Kucsulain of WALLS OF JERICHO was my very first point of reference both morally and technically speaking. Now that the band has a more metal sound I take inspiration also from Tatiana Shmailyuk of JINJER. I admire both of them, they stay on stage in such a strong and confident way that I find amazing!
Alright, that was all. If there’s something you want to add, now’s the time.
We’d like to thank all the people who made this project possible, especially the ones that keep supporting us every day. And thank you Metal Hangar 18 for giving us this opportunity!
