DAYLIGHT MISERY – The Great Absence
(I for an I Records & Media)
I met Daylight Misery two years ago when they were here together with Rotting Christ and other groups for a concert in Sofia. Then we did an interview with the vocalist Vassilis. Then for a long time, their album was never coming out of my car’s CD changer. Even then, Vassilis said that they wrote material for a new album, but for good (I hope) it’is release was scheduled for this fall. The impressive cover (done by Seth of Septicflesh) more increased my impatience. So it’s not surprising that after we received it from their label I for an I Media I listened to it 3 times in a row and in the coming days invariably at least once.
And no, not because of obligation. Just the album is very obsessive and catchy. The strange thing is that it’s not coming up with something extraordinary, I suppose you will find many references to early Paradise Lost (I think for Tristania, and other death/doom/gothic bands), but the music is varied and you don’t get tired of it after 2-3 songs (which sometimes happens with groups of this style). It also feels the influence of their location, namely the Greek scene. And there’s no way else, in the album making have helped people involved with Rotting Christ, Nigthfall , already said Septicflesh. The music in places is enriched with keyboards, also violin. I especially like the impersonations of the voice of Vassilis and the intense, oppressive moments are going into a cantabile-quiet passage. Try and hear their first video „Erynnis Funeralis“ and if it makes you shake your head in unison, you must wait for 20.09, when the album „The Great Absence“ is officially released and buy it.
