“My Next Dawn” is not only the title of TENEBRAE’s third studio release, but it also symbolizes, in a way, a new beginning for the band. After two albums with an art rock orientation, the Italians have made a sharp stylistic turn, offering us ten pieces of, generally speaking, atmospheric metal, combining doom, death and gothic metal elements within itself. And indeed, atmospheric keyboards are the solid ground, which the essence of “My Next Dawn” lays on, and the majority of the melodies on the record are exactly played on keyboards. The guitar work is slightly put in the background and is mostly expressed in simplistic riffs, fusing with the thick wall, created by the rhythm section, while at the same time there are no complex solos to stand out. Paolo Ferrarese’s clean vocals are that piece of the puzzle, which brings that classic doom CANDLEMASS-like feeling (we must say, however, that his voice sounds quiet specific), white the death growls, especially in a combination with synths, remind a lot of CREMATORY. Filled with refined theatricality, “My Next Dawn” is not the record to nest in your mind from the first time you hear it, but to really make you listen to the story it tells.
