selvans-downfalofnur

Another amazing work of art marked the end of this music-filled year. The conceptual EP „Downfall of Nur/Selvans“. Another incredible, wonderful voyage, filled with the warmth of the Sun and the mysticism of the Moon, combining the spirit of the ancient Italian gods with the South American beliefs and musical traditions. The music of Selvans always throws me in an emotional dualism, if I can use these words. On one side it’s the gentleness and the calmness of the nature sounds willed with traditional instruments and percussion and at the other side is the aggression of black metal. At times your brain explodes and cannot accept all the sounds that it hears. Because they really do invoke the feeling of being more than they really are, but the harmony in which they are combined, results in an incredibly beautiful music filled with ancient spirits and mysticism.

When we talk about Selvans we must look beyond the music. Because every composition is a legend transferred through music. The legends that lived with people for centuries and that were passed through the generations, because they weren’t just a part of the everyday life. They were a part of their heart shivers, joys, pain and pain. A part of their fetes and sorrows.

In this album Selvans Haruspex and Antonio Sanna (Downfall of Nur) have turned their sight towards the ancients lights, those who gave life and took it as well. The Sun and the Moon. The darkness of the female passion and the light of the male gentleness. The ancient tragedy of the eternally enamored sky lights, who are doomed to never meet. Doomed to suffer, to yearn, to cry, to laugh, but always apart from each other.

The album contains 4 songs. The Intro is dedicated to the Sun. After the beautiful and deep melody you can feel it’s warmth and light. “Painted” by solid guitar sound, pan flutes, piano and different traditional instruments, which all combine with the song of birds and forest rivers. This flows in the first piece „Pater Surgens“, a continuation of the sun subject. The music soars to such heights that it creates an eerie of sounds and melodies, in which we call feel even the warmness of melancholy.

The Moon part starts with „Mater Universi“. The rain brings a touch of darkness and chillness, while the macabre tone of the guitar combined with the sound of thunder, as if something creepy is about to happen. The composition is quite more aggressive than the one dedicated to the light (at least in its first part). Minor melodies of string instruments and low, whispered vocals fill the sound of doom. There is a part in „Mater Universi“ that really resembles the traditional folklore of the Andes. A place where the dualistic cult towards the Sun and the Moon lives from thousands of years and it’s the foundation of the beliefs there until now. The Outro is the Moon. Dark, almost ambient composition with which the magic of the night luminary shrouds the world.

In the album besides Selvans Haruspex and Antonio Sanna, participate other musicians from Selvans. The mastering is done by Gabriele Gramaglia, Antonio (who mixed the album), Selvans Haruspex and Dany Tee participate in the production. The cover is done by Santiago Caruso.
