Kenn Nardi – „Trauma“ (2021)
A blast from the past. A tamed bit of a wild passion.
This is what comes to mind after the fifth time I heard the entire 90 minutes of what Kenn Nardi of ANACRUSIS has to offer with his second solo album. 7 years ago, he released 28 tracks that went for 157 minutes. Enough music for two full albums. Today we face the same phenomenon – 19 tracks, 4 of which are remastered versions of ANACRUSIS („What You Became“, „Release“, „Far Too Long“ и „Brotherhood?“).
In comparison to “Dancing With The Past”, “Trauma” 2021 is definitely a massive in the direction of the ANACRUSIS sound. It brings me 30 years back. This wild, uncontrollable passion is polished. The album is filled with medium paced tracks but even in them there are bits, where Kenn shows the voice that made me fall in love with the band. In the record there are three balladic tracks – “Quiet wars”, “Grace Is Greater” and “Absence of Presence”. Everything else is a fresh mix of the known progressive trash, that we are used to hearing. There are even fast paced songs that are “Clarion Call”, “A Reckoning”, “Masquerade”, “Shed My Skin”, “No Surprise”.
Vocally, the tracks take turns between melancholic medium timbred parts and the chilling screams from hell that Kenn is known for (too bad there aren’t more of them). All of this is covered in a mystical veil, woven from the memories of the brilliant work of ANACRUSIS. A unique, multi-layered mix that makes it something that must be heard multiple times. There is a subtle hint that we can expect records like that and maybe even the band coming back together.
