Интервю с KAY BREM (ELUVEITIE)

Merely days before the consecutive arrival of the Swiss folkers Eluveitie, supporting Sabaton, alongside Wisdom, we had a little chat with Eluveitie’s bassist- Kay Brem. He is showing great enthusiasm on this particular part of their tour and is eager to return here in order to „smash“ us the way only Swiss folks can do.

Hello! First of all, thanks for the interview!! 🙂
How are you? Where are you now?

Today we have a day off in a nice hotel in Praha, Czech republic! I feel hangover and I appreciate a day without the usual touring action.

How’s the tour going so far? And what are your expectations about it?

This eastern Europe tour leg with SABATON is going very well so far. We just played 4 big shows in Poland and it was amazing to see the reactions from our polish fans. I enjoyed every moment on this stages and I can’t wait for all the coming shows.

How was the American tour? I guess it’s a lot of fun being on the road with Wintersun?

As i really like to rock out in the states it was again, for the eight time I guess, a nice experience. It’s so different to tour over there and as we built a huge fan base in all the years before, we sold out every show. of course to have Wintersun as support was even better for everyone. And yes, the partys were just great and we had many bad hangovers together.

Tell us: are you preparing something special about this show? Do you know how long you are going to stay here?

We always try to make a super show for our fans, even more when we play in countries we play not that much. And I’m sure we will be there before and afterwards to make pictures with fans to give them something back for the support.
What are your impressions from your last visit in our country? 🙂

I remember nice girls, good beer and a nice crowd, can’t wait to be back 🙂

A little bit late but..congratulations on the band’s anniversary!
Thanks for that. I can’t wait for the next 10 years as the band is going in a good direction this days, each album is closer to the style I want.

What’s the story behind „Helvetios“ ? How long did you write and record it? It is an  amazing album tough..

The idea is actually really old, we had it years ago to make a album about the Gaulish war. Chrigel was  researching all the time and the album is like one big story from the beginning to the end. the lyrics fits  perfect with the music, we all are super happy about it and it took us a month to record all the parts in  3 different studios.

When i took an interview from Rob (Epica), I asked him why he had chosen the bass. Why  did you?

I have no idea! I played other instruments before but I was always fascinated by all the big bass players like Roger Patterson from ATHEIST for example.
I love it when the whole stage is vibrating because of the deep bass sounds, everyone else besides bass players hate that on stage I now:-)
And we all know, the bass player is always the rock n roll dude 🙂

How did you start playing with Eluveitie?

Back in the days i moved out of Switzerland because some big familiar issues, so at that moment I wanted to quit playing in bands for awhile to have time for myself. Someday Chrigel called me and told me 2 of the band members left the band and Eluveitie will have a show in two days at a festival in Austria. At that time I had no clue about folk metal because it was never my style I played. well, I joined the band and all the tours brought me back on my frets and I’m sure this decision saved my life back then.

Here’s something new I would like to try, just some things fans may be interested to know, something like lexicon:

Name: Kay Brem

Birthday: January 8th

Hobbies: old american bikes and cars, sport in general, guns, guitars and tattoos

Favourite quote: nothing can get me, but a silver bullet

Favourite book: Robert Schneider „Schlafes Bruder“

Favourite band/song: hard to say, it would be a song from johnny cash, wasp or pantera

The song that matches up my mood right now: something from PEARL JAM or ALICE IN CHAINS

I believe in: myself

I want to go to: the bathtub or to a bar to work against my hangover

The last concert i visited as a fan was: to be honest i can not remember, maybe WOVEN HAND or when i was visiting my friends from Lamb of God and we made a typical swiss fondue dinner together

My fave Eluveitie album: definitely HELVETIOS, it kicks ass

Favourite school subject: History and sport

Favourite color: Blue

Something interesting that only few people know about me: my finger print from my left thumb looks super strange because a little bunny almost cut it off when i was a child and i had the genius idea its cool to tease the bunny with my hand. so all the border agents in the states give me a weird look when they see it.

And what would you like to say to your fans and readers of Metal Hangar 18?
See you really soon, cheers to all of you! 🙂
Thanks to all of you for supporting us, we appreciate that very much, and i hope we all see us at the show to rock out together and have some beers

Remember that the concert of Sabaton with support bands Eluveitie and Wisdom is coming! The date is 18th March 2013 at Universiada Hall:
